    Green Supply Chain Project

Since 2017, Goldwind has actively promoted green design, green procurement, green production and green delivery within the industry, creating a green supply chain throughout the entire process, chain and phase of wind energy to promote the green and sustainable development of the wind energy industry. At the same time, Goldwind and Beijing Jianheng Certification Center/China General Certification Center (北京鑒衡認證中心) jointly compiled the “Green Supplier Evaluation Standards”, carrying out the green supplier evaluation project for three consecutive years in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Under the project, more than 80 supply partners were evaluated for their “greenness”, with comprehensive data and benchmarking analysis performed to help uncover suppliers’ energy saving and emissions reduction potential and, ultimately, promote the green transformation of enterprises.

Wind Turbine Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Project

Wind Turbine Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Project

Goldwind pays close attention to the environmental impact of wind turbines throughout their life cycle. In 2020, the company initiated the life cycle assessments (LCA) of the GW155-4.5MW and GW136-4.2MW units in accordance with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044, studying and analyzing the resources and energy used, the waste generated and the impact on the environment throughout the entire “raw material obtainment, manufacturing, operations and maintenance, wind turbine decommissioning, and power transmission and distribution” process.

Following meticulous data collection, analysis and computations, it was found that a GW155-4.5MW wind turbine unit emitted 7.25 grams of carbon dioxide per unit of power generation during its 20-year life cycle under specific conditions, while a GW136-4.2MW wind turbine unit emitted 8.04 grams of carbon dioxide per unit of power generation during its 20-year life cycle based on an almost identical computational method. With 838 grams of carbon dioxide emitted per unit of thermal power generation domestically, carbon dioxide emissions per unit of wind power generation are less than 1% of the former in comparison.

So far, the program has benefited nearly 400 rural teachers and 50,000 rural students in more than 210 schools across 24 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions nationwide. To further expand the scope of the program and benefit more rural teachers, the company has also arranged for outstanding teachers and education experts from Beijing to visit remote villages under its “Bring Education to Remote Areas” activity.

The Goldwind Public Welfare Foundation and Goldwind Runner’s Club jointly launched a charity project titled “Run for Tracks”, in which the Foundation would match the donation based on the number of kilometers accomplished by the members of the Runner’s Club within a designated time, i.e. for each kilometer ran by members of the Runner’s Club, 1 yuan would be donated. All proceeds went towards building a plastic track in Nansai Central Primary School in Neiqiu County, Xingtai City, Hebei Province. More than 300 members of the Runner’s Club participated in the charity program online and offline, achieving a total running distance of 42,536 kilometers. Thanks to the support of the Beijing Goldwind Public Welfare Foundation, Goldwind built a 200-meter plastic track for Nansai Central Primary School.

The “Goldwind Cup” Energy Innovation Challenge was launched in 2018 by Goldwind and Tsinghua University’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics Technology in collaboration with the Chinese Wind Energy Association and the China Association of Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers (CAAMM)’s Wind Machinery Branch. Aimed at cultivating college students’ interest and professional ethics in the renewable energy industry, the competition adopted the competition model of future-oriented new topic selection and in-depth innovation to encourage more youths to devote themselves to the cause of global energy transformation and create a green future together. Following three years of development, the “Goldwind Cup” competition has grown in scale and influence, with more than 200 teams and 1,000 people from nine national double first-class universities—Tsinghua University, Peking University, University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, North China Electric Power University, Beihang University, Renmin University of China, Beijing Jiaotong University, Central University of Finance and Economics, and University of Science and Technology Beijing—signing up for the competition. The “Goldwind Cup” has become an innovative series of competitions that is recognized and welcomed by college students and teachers as well as the renewable energy industry.
